Desire Path: Dreaming Access Art, a virtual but real event

Listen to this post:

Desire Paths

Have you noticed or been on a desire path before? They beg to be used and used again. That’s the heart of what they are and how they come to be paths at all. They’re defiant and efficient DIY marvels that happen anywhere they can. They oppose the urban grid. They give you a choice. Sometimes a path is presented before you that just doesn’t seem suitable or accessible. When you can, you will, without giving it much thought, choose a different path, one you desire, one that will get you there better. And maybe the original path is nicely paved and is the best option for you. You should use that one, by all means. As you desire.

During the late autumn of 2021, two Portland access artists called The Curiosity Paradox held recorded conversations with leaders in the Portland area who practice some kind of Access Art for a project called Desire Path.

From these conversations, The Curiosity Paradox has produced artistic learning materials on Access Art. The virtual launch event on February 18th will introduce the release of these materials and mark the public start of their Desire Path Project.

This hour-long event is free and will be recorded.

There will be ASL interpretation, automated captions, and image descriptions. There may be a discussion. There will be described and captioned video. It will be really neat.

A captioned recording and transcript of this event will be shared publicly online afterward along with a Somali translated version that will be posted later.
