Getting started with planning early! It’s been quite a while since I wrote about the Disability Art and Culture Project, so here we go! 2014 is going to bring us to the 6th Disability Pride Arts and Culture Festival and the 3rd Sex, Love and Disability Fundraiser event. (The festival is open to all ages. The fundraiser is for adults because of content.) I’ll write much more on both as they get closer. Today is the day for discussing love and sex and art.
There are several ways for you to be involved with making the Sex, Love and Disability III Fundraiser a successful, celebratory event aside from performing in it or attending it!
First, you can actually become a sponsor this time around. Click on the images below to see the sponsorship levels and perks. If you can’t read the info on the images, click on this link to open a pdf version.
Another way to get involved is by contributing to the upcoming zine. Not everyone can or wants to make it to the live event. The zine will be a wonderful, dynamic part of the whole accessible package.
We’re looking for short essays, short stories, poems, anything having to do with Sex, Love and Disability for the zine. All submissions will be carefully read and considered. Please submit your work to William L. Alton by January 10th, 2014.
Disability Art and Culture Project embraces people from all walks of life. We want a diverse selection of writings from all our intersections and identities. Queer, People of Color, Indigenous, Refugee, Immigrant, Disabled and nonDisabled. All we ask is that the work be exciting, meaningful, edgy, romantic and inclusive. We are exploring the cross section of sex, love and life in all its forms.
And another way to get involved is to volunteer with the organizing committee. I was on this committee two years ago and had a blast. At the last event, some performance pieces were upbeat and some melancholy. All were a true celebration of love, sex and sexuality around disability in a non-exploitative way.
