Easterseals Disability Film Challenge 2024 Audio Description

Listen to this post:

Now in its 11th year, the Easterseals Disability Film Challenge (EDFC) worked with Social Audio Description Collective to provide audio description for 15 of the 16 finalists. And this is the first time that the film challenged has organized to get professional audio description on any of their films. We did 15 because the 16th film, titled Audio Description, was submitted to the challenge with audio description already. EDFC gives filmmakers with and without disabilities the opportunity to collaborate to tell unique stories that showcase deafness and disability through a filmmaking contest.

This year, the creative prompt was buddy comedy, and wow, do these films deliver. I wanted to list my favorite one here, but once I got to four titles, I remembered that’s not really how “favorite” works.

I’ve been working with SADC (the Social Audio Description Collective) for a couple years now writing, narrating, editing audio and video, and managing all sorts of projects from trailers to documentary films to museum exhibitions. For EDFC, we got to write and produce the AD for all 15 films in only six days!

Here’s a playlist of the 16 finalists and winners on YouTube with open captions and open audio description. And here’s a playlist of all 135 entries for this year, a record number! Congratulations to those 16 finalists and the winners.
