Move over, pumpkin spice. Move over to my own birthday. It’s Superfest season, my favorite time of the year! This year is the 38th festival of the longest-running disability film festival, and it marks an exciting new collaboration. This year, the festival is co-presented by the Longmore Institute on Disability and the new San Francisco Disability Cultural Center!
The festival is hybrid, with four days of virtual access on Eventive and one day of onsite screenings at the Exploratorium in San Francisco on October 19th.
Head over to the Superfest website to read about all 18 films in the lineup, festival panels and events, and get your passes to the virtual or onsite screenings. Passes start at $0. Films all have audio description and captions.
Other events include the following:
October 17th at 3 PM Pacific is a virtual Superfest kickoff event and panel conversation hosted by Alice Wong. She’ll spotlight her new initiative, The Disabled BIPOC Film Collective. ASL and CART will be provided for this free, online panel. Register at: DCC.page/superfest24-
October 19th, there are two screenings at the Exploratorium. The first block of films screens at 12 PM Pacific. The second block starts at 3 PM and has a panel discussion. ASL (Deaf interpreters) for all live dialogue, CART, and closed audio description will be offered.
October 20th at 4 PM Pacific is a virtual Superfest Community Conversation. It’s a chance for filmmakers and attendees to meet and talk about the films. Bianca Laureano, the Cafe Crip moderator, will facilitate the conversation. ASL and CART will be offered. Register for this free online event at: DCC.page/
Remember: The cost for passes for Superfest start at $0, and all the films have audio description and captions!
