Listen to this post:
Recently, I deleted the first post from this site where I explained what this film is and why I’m making it. I have no good reason why I deleted it. I think I was confused. Tyler Presnell just said he would be thrilled to contribute his poetry to the blog. He was super enthusiastic even though he didn’t know what this film was all about. Oops! Sorry about that Tyler. Thank you for being so generous about participating!
So here is that very first post again with some tiny adjustments. 🙂
Thanks to very generous donations from the community, my new documentary film was funded on September 20th, 2012. We raised enough money to recruit artists with brain injuries, film their first interviews, and set up and film exhibitions and performances of their work. This was a wonderful community effort.
The provisional title was “The Art of Brain Injury.” That sounded a little somber, so it is now “Who Am I To Stop It.” Still haven’t decided if there’s going to be a question mark in there or not!
Here’s what you can find on this blog:
- Updates about progress on the film
- Posts, visual arts, and links to work by artists with brain injury
- Links to sites and information about disability arts
- Discussions
And below is an excerpt the film that I used to raise funds. It explains my ideas for the film and why I hope to make it.

I keep embedding the clip on this site, and it keeps disappearing!

Inspiring stuff. And you’re dead right and put it so well. I had to learn how to sing (not as well) again!
Thanks! I admit I had to go back to read the post again so I could figure out what it was I’d put so well. If I didn’t learn how to laugh about all this brain injury stuff, it would be pretty sad. I’m glad you felt like I captured some real things. People probably wish I wouldn’t sing so much. You can keep singing, though.
hey! Jolly good. You got to laugh haven’t you? No seriously .. for a long time I HAD to laugh! Thinking about the return vid. Where would I send it though? Can’t find your email … Will be tomorrow or the next day (relearning how to drive tomorrow so keep your fingers crossed!)
Ha! Only folks like us with the gorgeous diagnostic label “labile” would get your “HAD to laugh” joke!
I’ve been debating whether I should relearn driving. I was always better at it than singing before. Maybe I will be again.
oh … and you on twitter?
I have no idea what a Twitter machine looks like, though I am familiar with people who tweet.
I’ve only just recently hit twitter to get some audience for After The Fall. It probably was the start to this ocean spanning banter! And that email is …. ?
Aha! I was like “ocean spanning? What’s that mean?” You see why I suck at improv comedy now? Sooooo slow on the uptake. I emailed you a bit ago, so you can see my email address there. I tried to avoid spam-like subject lines like “Send $100K to my bank account now” and things like that, but I don’t recall what I did put. Anyway, you’ll see my name.
Well I think your reasonably amusing. 😉 I was just on the verge of sending you 1000 K but now I’ll just have to blow it on drugs and fast cars. Email got.
Well, thank goodness there’s some element of reason somewhere in my life! I believe sending me the money instead of spending it on these other things would have been tax-deductible, but suit yourself. If you really can drive a fast car, I envy you. I’m not allowed to operate a bike on city streets.
