Cool event announcement: Including Disability Global Summit!

Online
April 25-27, 2023

The theme for the 2023 Summit is a call for agitation: What can we do now so that the future is far better than the present for disabled people?

This isn’t a conference focused on the helping professions or inclusionism or charitable endeavors. This is almost entirely disabled presenters gathering to share what we’re up to, how we’re agitating, where we have or are building hope, excitement, art, and conversation. The summit is free and online.

Check out the whole schedule of events on the IDGS website. Thomas Reid and I are doing a super-short presentation, POD Access: Empowerment Through Podcasting, Thursday, April 27th, 2023 9:35 – 10:00 AM Eastern. I’m not even going to convert that to my time zone. I don’t wanna scare myself with how early it is. At least my cat will be ecstatic to get an early start on nomming and playing fetch. POD Access is a project Thomas and I started developing more than a year ago through Alice Wong’s Disability Visibility Project, and we’re gonna take you on a journey of what we’ve learned being in conversation with D/deaf and disabled podcasters this past year! But please don’t go to just our session. The whole summit sounds amazing.

Keynote presentations are by Liz Jackson, an advocate and founding member of The Disabled List, and D’Arcee Charington Neal, a disability scholar coining the theory of Afrophantam or, the rhetorical applications of invisibility through Afrofuturism and black disability culture.

The Summit also has a screening of the award-winning film, “Dani’s Twins” and a panel discussion featuring Dani Izzie (from the film) and other disabled parenting activists.

Visit the Eventbrite registration page to register for free and let the organizers know of any access needs or accommodations you want to request. I know that registering on Eventbrite is not super accessible. The summit has a contact page if you need anything or if you have questions: Including Disability Organizing Committee: including-disability.org/contact-us
