Access Reframed: Expanding Access with Captions

Listen to this post:

I’m so excited to be invited back to speak on a panel hosted by Full Spectrum Features, All Senses Go, BACKBONES, and LaGrish! The 2020 panels on d/Deaf and disabled filmmakers and on film festival accessibility and equity were really cool, and it was an honor to be on one of them.

This year, Friday, November 5th, 2021 at 11:00 am Pacific (1:00 pm Central), we’re focused on captions. As before, the panel is free, and we’ll be meeting and streaming from Zoom.

Event poster featuring the bright television color bars in yellow, cyan, green, magenta, red, and black. Against this loud backdrop, a caption with white text on black bar reads: "Expanding Access with Captions, November 5, 2021 at 1pm." Below, "Access Reframed. Educate. Advocate. Enact Change.” At bottom, a white field has symbols for American Sign Language Interpretation and Closed Captioning, and logos for presenters Full Spectrum Features, All Senses Go, Backbones and LaGrish, and sponsor Chicago DCASE.

In this panel, you’ll learn from d/Deaf filmmakers and captioning experts about how to expand media accessibility. This three-part conversation is for professionals who would like to develop more accessible media for their marketing and outreach campaigns. Participants will be introduced to the benefits of captioning and learn best practices for how to create quality captions.

Panelists are Jade Bryan (who was in one of last year’s panels), Cheryl Green, and Delbert Whetter, moderated by Matt Lauterbach. ASL interpretation and Closed Captioning are available for the event.
