If I love anything, it’s cross disability art and activism. OK, cats too, and also I have a thing for chocolate. But when I’m away from both cats and chocolate, you can pretty much guarantee I’m doing some kind of disability-related art or social justice work. Cross disability is my favorite because we have so much to learn from each other and teach each other from different communities about culture, fighting stigma, dismantling ableism, and being joyful in a mostly inaccessible world (and making it more accessible and just).

I’ve been on the Board of Disability Art and Culture Project for five years now. Before that I volunteered, performed with them, and went to performances and disability pride festivals. Now, DACP is 10, and we’re having a big party next week. Since I’m on the planning committee, I’ve seen almost all the amazing silent auction items on offer. Heads up: no chocolate yet, but there are a couple cat-related and dog-related items! Mostly it’s great stuff including fine art, getaways at Victorian mansions in wine country (I’m serious), theater tickets, beer, wine, hard cider (that one’s going to be mine though, sorry), and fancy dinner out.

In addition to the silent auction we’ll have a cash bar and snacks, do poetry and prose readings by iconic disability community activists like Art Honeyman and Laura Hershey, have live dance and film trailers for the ReelAbilities Portland festival, and host a generally fantastic time.

The venue is wheelchair accessible. We will have Closed Captions, ASL interpretation, and Audio Description. Please come scent free.
