NW Deaf Arts Festival celebrates Deaf Cultural Diversity

Listen to this post:

On June 16th, 2018, history will be made as the Northwest Deaf Arts Festival (NWDAF) will bring together top national Deaf artists who share a passion for an inclusive and innovative multi-sensory cultural extravaganza made equally accessible for Deaf and Hearing allies.

For the first time in recent times, Portland Oregon will be a place on the map as a premiere destination for national and emerging local Deaf talent who will perform live on stage, backed by the latest sound visualization and tactile technologies. The festival lineup includes nationally-renowned Deaf hip-hop artist Sean Forbes (Deaf & Loud/DPAN), dance sensation Antoine Hunter (Urban Jazz Dance), immersive multimedia performer Myles de Bastion, and award winning poet Raymond Luczak.

NWDAF will be held at Mississippi Studios in the heart of Portland’s Historic Mississippi District. The studios are at 3939 North Mississippi Avenue in Portland. That’s on the #4 bus line.

The festival is offering both a Family-friendly Matinee Show and an adult-only 21+ Evening Show. To attend both shows and receive an exclusive invite to the Aftershow Party, a limited number of VIP All Day Passport tickets are available. More info about NWDAF is available at nwdeafartsfest.com. Inquiries may be emailed to info@cymaspace.org or by calling 971-319-4954.

NWDAF is produced by CymaSpace, a Portland based nonprofit consisting of passionate community advocates who volunteer year-round to facilitate cultural events inclusive of the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing. The work of CymaSpace has been featured nationally on Jimmy Kimmel Live and in prominent local institutions such as Portland Art Museum and OMSI.

$25 Family Matinee (2:00 to 4:30 pm)
$30 Evening Show for ages 21+ (5:00 to 8:00 pm)
$80 VIP All-Day Pass (includes aftershow party 9:00 to late!).

ASL, Voice & Deaf-Blind Interpreters, Open Captioning, cutting edge Sound Visualizations and a limited number of Tactile Audio Assistive Devices will be provided.
