Spotlight on Disability Film Festivals: Superfest International Disability Film Festival taking submissions now

Listen to this post:

Back in June, I wrote on this blog about a really awesome sounding awards program called The Dissies. The idea was to come up with the worst ever representations and portrayals of disability (and disabled people) in the movies. Then, you’d diss them. I love the play on words. The awards ceremony was held last October. And now, it’s time to submit your original films with awesome disability representations and portrayals to compete in the film festival.

Superfest International Disability Film Festival is in its 16th year, if I’m doing the math right. That’s a lotta years. That’s a lotta film by disabled artists. From their website, it’s a “showcase of juried films held in the San Francisco Bay Area. This annual competition celebrates cutting-edge cinema that portrays disability culture in all its diverse, complex, and empowering facets, and is the longest running festival of its kind in the world.”

Doesn’t it sound totally amazing and so not special and brave?

I got my submission in. Now it’s your turn. Go to www.Superfestfilm.com and click on “film submission” to submit your short film (40 minutes or less). Just make sure your film has compelling portrayals of disability or is written, produced, directed by, or starring folks with disabilities, and you’re good to go!
